Root: A Game of Woodland Might and Right

Created by Leder Games

Root is a game of adventure and war in which 1 to 6 players battle for control of a vast wilderness. Root represents the next step in our development of asymmetric design. Like Vast: the Crystal Caverns, each player in Root has unique capabilities and a different victory condition. Now, with the aid of gorgeous, multi-use cards, a truly asymmetric design has never been more accessible. In Root, players drive the narrative, and the differences between each role create an unparalleled level of interaction and replayability. Leder Games invites you and your family to explore the fantastic world of Root!

Gen Con 2018!
over 5 years ago – Mon, Jul 30, 2018 at 11:06:28 PM

Howdy Folks!

Freshly exhausted from last week's shipping, it's time for all of us here at Leder Games to pile into vans (or planes) and get to Gen Con 2018!

We will be on the road Tuesday and will be busy with the convention for the following week. As you might expect, we won't be as active in the comments section here on Kickstarter or answering direct messages at that time. I apologize in advance for any delay in getting back to you all.

For those of you heading to the big show, you can find us in booth #3043.

Because of the amount of Root we are bringing, our demo space in our booth will be limited. So, we did the only reasonable thing and rented a few tables in Hall A for the sole purpose of running games!

I realize y'all are backers and you've already bought our games, but, if you want to buy more, here's an overview of what we'll be selling at the con. As you can see, we'll also be selling custom metal pins for Root. If we have any left over, we'll likely be selling these on our store in some fashion and/or at future conventions.

Of course, even if you've already backed and received your game, we hope come say hello to the whole staff anyway!

Also, this is probably as good a time as ever to mention that if you have any questions or any issues with your copy, please send an email to [email protected], but do keep in mind that our entire staff will be at Gen Con and there may be delays in getting back to you.

Quick Shipping note on the Art Prints and T-Shirts
almost 6 years ago – Sat, Jul 28, 2018 at 01:49:49 AM

Hey folks,

I just have a quick update today. Shipping continues. The majority of copies (for US backers) have been sent out and the remaining will be out by Monday. Some people may even be getting their games as early as this Saturday. Over the past week, we've relied a lot on local backers and friends and family who have jumped into the fray to help us with packing. Without them, shipping at this speed would not have been possible. Our fulfillment partner, Atlas Games, has been wonderful as well.

If you live outside of the US, and are curious about our shipping timeline, see the previous update. Also, as a reminder, we do not send out individual shipping notifications, so don't worry if you haven't gotten anything from us in your email.

With that in mind, I wanted to say a quick word about the Art Prints and the T-Shirts. They are done, look beautiful, but, due to a slight logistical mishap, we couldn't fit them in our standard shipping boxes. So, rather than delay those folks who ordered extras, we'll be shipping the t-shirts and the art prints separately. Much of this shipping will happen in mid-August, because of Gen Con. This delay is true for our backers elsewhere in the world as well. There were a few mistakes in the t-shirt quantities that we are fixing right now, but it means that they will be getting to their depots after the games and we don't want to delay the games at all. We are happy to ship these extras separately and cover the cost ourselves.

In short, if you open your box of Root and find that it's without your signed art-print or your t-shirt, don't despair, they will be coming in a few weeks.

Alright, that's it for now. Remember, if you have specific concerns about your copy, the best way to contact us is to write an email to [email protected]

Stay tuned in a few days for more information about Gen Con!

A plea to use official support channels (and a little shipping news)
almost 6 years ago – Tue, Jul 24, 2018 at 10:05:38 PM

Hi everyone,

Over the past few days we've been inundated with a flood of questions coming by every means imaginable, from facebook messages to our personal accounts to tweets, certified mail, telegrams, and carrier pigeons. Perhaps now would be a good time to remind everyone that, if you have a specific concern about your order, there's really only one good way to contact us: email us at [email protected]

Given the volume at the moment, it may take us a day or two to respond to your message, but emailing us at that address is the only way we can be sure that we won't miss your message.

In other news, last Friday we received the first container of Root here in Saint Paul. The second container came yesterday and both have been unloaded. As planned, we will begin shipping out US orders this week.

For those unfamiliar with the process, here's a quick overview of how it works on our end. Once we have unloaded all of the games, the warehouse manager will assemble a crew to start assembling shipping boxes and loading the individual parcels. It's likely some of us in the office will go over to help him if he needs an extra hand or two. The parcels will be double-checked and then get a shipping label. Then, a USPS truck will arrive Friday and pick up everything we have ready to ship. If there are any left, we'll work over the weekend and another USPS truck will come Monday.

As far as US copies go, It's our goal to have all of the Kickstarter and Backerkit preorders in the mail by the time we leave for Gencon. As I said in the last shipping update, Aus/Asia is on a similar timeline to us, EU & CA are about a couple weeks behind the US but still on schedule overall.

One reason why we don't offer local pickup on Kickstarter orders is that it's really easy for a steady stream of folks coming by to get their copies interrupt this process and introduce errors. We want to make sure we can get everyone their games as soon as possible, and this is the best way for us to do it. Trust us on this one.

Again, if you have any specific concerns, the only way to guarantee that your message gets to us it to email [email protected]I cannot emphasize this enough. We try our best to monitor the various social media channels we use, but if you're worried about something, a Kickstarter or Facebook message is simply not a good way to let us know.

If you have general questions, such as "when is Canada shipping?" or "where can I buy things?", we also maintain an FAQ on our website here: http://ledergames.com/frequently-asked-questions/

Alright, that's it for now. We will have another update in about a week concerning Gencon. Till then, we've all got to pack some boxes!

Heavy Cardboard Teach and Playthrough Tonight!
almost 6 years ago – Fri, Jul 20, 2018 at 01:12:17 AM

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to send everyone a little reminder about tonight's teach and playthrough with Heavy Cardboard. The stream will begin around 8CST (so about fifteen minutes from now). If you miss it, the video will be available afterwards. Patrick, myself, and several other staff members will be lurking in the chat window, so feel free to stop by and say hi!

The First Video Review, Shipping Update and Upcoming HC Playthrough
almost 6 years ago – Thu, Jul 19, 2018 at 12:33:48 AM

Dear Backers,

We've got three exciting announcements for everyone today.

First, as many of you have probably already seen, Tom Vasel reviewed Root last week and gave it his highest recommendation. The full review can be found here:

Second, the containers of Root should be arriving in Saint Paul on Friday. We'll be unloading the Containers as soon as we get them and should be able to ship out to backers in the United States next week. Our other depots around the world are not far behind. Asia/Australia/New Zealand will fulfill around the same time as the US. Canada should fulfill the second week of August. Europe and the rest of the world should be arriving around August 6th and will fulfill shortly after.

Third, tomorrow the Heavy Cardboard folks will be doing a sponsored teaching and playthrough video for Root. I had the pleasure of showing the game to Edward back at Origins and I know the Heavy Cardboard crew has been having fun with the game since. The playthrough is scheduled for 8pm CST. You'll be able to find it here:

I'd encourage everyone to check it out. If you want to learn the game from scratch, watch a full game in play, or just see what the final production copy of the game looks like in action, I'm sure the video will have something for you.

Oh, before I go, I just wanted to remind everyone again that we will be at Gen Con and, assuming shipping goes off without a hitch next week, we'll be selling Root and the expansion. Though we didn't get a larger booth this year, we did reserve some tables, so that even if our booth is swamped, we'll have people who can direct you to a second demo area. We'll be sure to provide a larger update on Gen Con closer to the con. Till then, check this out: we've made it to the top ten of the BGG Gen Con preview!

As you might be able to glean, these are exciting times here in Saint Paul. Thanks again for all of your support. This project wouldn't have been possible without you!
